These free, community-led walks invite people to explore their surroundings through history, shared spaces, and everyday lived experience. Together, we’ll walk, talk, and reflect on what makes our villages liveable, welcoming, and worth caring for.
The Walks
Appin – facilitated by Dunc Hodgson & Heather Jacobs
A walk exploring the Appin community and surrounding landscape: Meet at
The Ekfrid Museum behind the community centre
This walk will invite conversation about:
- The story of Appin as a rural crossroads community
- Key places of gathering, past and present
- Connections between land, history, and community life
Wardsville – facilitated by Ken Willis & Denise Corneil. Meet at
A walk grounded in:
- Deep local history
- The role of culture, storytelling, and shared spaces
- How Wardsville has reinvented itself through community action
Glencoe – facilitated by Harold Carruthers. Meet at The Archives
A walk through Glencoe looking at:
- Historic gathering places
- Existing and potential “third spaces”
- Opportunities for neighbourhood and citizen care
What to Expect
- 60–90 minute neighbourhood walk
- Informal, participatory format (not a traditional guided tour)
- Stories, memories, and local knowledge shared along the way
- Exploration of parks, halls, churches, sidewalks, and gathering places
- Conversation about strengths, gaps, and opportunities for care
