Cheated tells the surrender story from inside the Indian Affairs department. What happened, how, and most importantly why, is documented in official government records held by Library and Archives Canada.
Bill Waiser is one of Canada’s foremost historians. For more than three decades, he was a history professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He is now a full-time writer and public speaker. Bill Waiser is the author or more than a dozen books, including A World We Have Lost: Saskatchewan before 1905 (2016), winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award for nonfiction, and Cheated: The Laurier Liberals and the Theft of First Nations Reserve Land (2023), which he co-authored with historian Jennie Hansen. He is also the recipient of the Governor General’s History Award for Popular Media (the Pierre
Berton Award). Bill lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
