Sept 18: Bonnets and Bayonets: Women in the shadows during the War of 1812

The Archives 178 McKellar Street, Glencoe (Southwest Middlesex), Ontario

Hybrid event with the author Sept 18, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. In persona or zoom. Who were the wives, mothers, and women during the War of 1812? Why has history largely forgotten these integral players in Canadian history and is this anyone’s fault? We can formulate our answers to these questions by examining and sharing stories of womanhood during the War. We will discuss famous women like Laura Secord and try to piece together the plight of the under-recorded women, the wives and families of the British Army and Canadian Militia. What are the challenges in finding and presenting this history? Why is it so important to do so?
