The Digital Series – Spring 2019

The weekly series starts at 2:00 p.m.  Starts April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and May 7.   No charge. Held at the new Glencoe Public Library, 123 McKellar St, Glencoe, ON.  Bring your laptop and/or devices and passwords.   Here is the link to the facebook Events

 

    1. Ancestry.ca.   2 April 2019.  Chris Harrington, Reference Librarian with Middlesex County Library, will show you how to use Ancestry.ca to build your family tree. Harold Carruthers from the local Archives will describe the local records and the help you can get from the Glencoe & District Historical Society.  We will learn about ordering our DNA. This is your chance to start your family tree. New and experienced genealogists from the community are all encouraged to register. Come and share your knowledge with others.
    2. Libby & Overdrive.  9 April 2019. Courtney Joris. Libby and Overdrive give you access to ebooks and e-Audiobooks you can enjoy on the go! Learn how to download the apps, sign up for these services, and access free content from the library. We will troubleshoot common problems and show you how to recommend the titles you want to see in our digital collections. Join us if you’re curious about ebooks and want to get started, or if you’ve run into a problem and want some help.
    3. Facebook for the Community. 16 April 2019.   Controversial as Facebook is, with the distribution of our local newspapers receding, we need to get our community messages out via many channels.  Facebook Pages are a must for community groups. Set up a Page for your business, band, project, or church. Post all your Events so that other groups can help spread the word.  Does your organization have someone assigned to look after social media? Bring your Facebook problem and we’ll figure it out.
    4. Pinterest.  23 April 2019.  No matter what your interest, Pinterest, is a great place to share and organize images.  Come to this workshop if you would like to get started with your own account and learn the basics.  Also, come if you absolutely LOVE Pinterest and have some tips and tricks to share.
    5. Google Map, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.  April 30, 2019. Google applications allow you to work together with your colleagues, volunteers, partners, fellow students.  Instead of sending attachments, work together in the same document. Google Map is an incredible geography and promotional tool.  We will show you how your can be a Local Guide to our community. Free registration.  Pre-register  call library 519 287 2735.
    6. Find a Grave.  May 7, 2019. Ken, Sharon Beecroft and Lorne Munro will show us how to add information so people from far away can find their ancestors.   If you enjoy exploring local cemeteries, then come to learn about “Find a Grave”, the world’s largest grave site collection.
