Canada is changing. Munition production is one of the largest industries. Women are taking a place in the factories. Returning veterans grapple with their future. Halifax is shattered by explosion. And, a proposal that had it been accepted would have changed the destination of the snowbirds of today.

1917 dawns as the third year of chaos in the First World War. In the next 12 months the world will be shaken by apparent stalemate on the battlefield; the Russian Revolution and the growing role of the United States in international affairs.

Canadians take pride in the capture of Vimy Ridge but recoil in horror at the mounting causalities on the battlefields of France. The demand for more fighting men will touch off a political crisis over conscription and the fear of a badly divided country.

Al McGregor is a local author specializing in historical fiction. His books are based on the Canadian experience with an emphasis on Southwestern Ontario.

The former television anchor, reporter and producer builds on an extensive background in research and writing to recreate the various era’s that attract his attention. Pre-covid, he often delivered presentations on the books and the writing process. His home is in rural Elgin County. For more information www.almcgregor.com
